The majority of people do not drink the necessary amount of water that their bodies need. When you exercise, you lose a tremendous amount of fluids mainly from sweating. Since your metabolism is increased for hours after you workout, you continue to burn through fluids faster throughout the day than you normally would. Being hydrated is a must for anyone trying to lose weight, gain weight or put on muscle – actually it’s a must for anyone! There are many negative effects when you are dehydrated, but for exercising it can really deplete your gains.
They say you are supposed to drink about a half gallon a day. I feel this is in addition to the water that you should be drinking when you exercise, so I don’t even count the water I drink during that time. So try to drink at least a half a gallon of water a day plus your water during workout. Some people need more, some don’t need quite that much but it’s a good idea to drink at least that much so you are well hydrated.
The problem that I and most people run into is you don’t end up doing it. If you are anything like me, you may drink a couple of glasses of water in the morning at work, and then not drink anything else all day long. It’s real easy to forget to drink your water. To help ensure you drink your water, I recommend spending a few dollars and buy a 1/2 gallon water bottle. Simply fill it up in the morning and sip on it throughout the day. This way you know exactly how much you drink, and you can set a goal to finish the bottle before the evening time.
