Dig deep when you aren’t feeling like working out

When you are not feeling like working out, dig deep!
When you are not feeling like working out, dig deep!

Many of my articles come from my current experiences at the gym. I am usually very motivated to hit the weights, but today was a day that I simply did not want to go to the gym. I have been sick all weekend and got about five hours of sleep both weekend nights.   Also I must admit… I drank way too much. When my alarm clock went off this morning, the last thing I felt like doing was getting up, much less hitting the gym. Since it is Labor Day today, I was secretly hoping that the gym opened up late like it does many times on holidays, so I could go back home and sleep. I arrived to the gym sleepy, unmotivated and it was open. I had no excuses.

So I started my chest workout today from the Workout Calendar.  Yes, those are the workouts that I actually do, so if you take a look you will know exactly what I did.  I started out doing 15 minutes of cardio on the elliptical machine.  That was a big plus since it slowly woke me up.  Well that and my preworkout Jack3d, combined they both helped.  Still, I was very tired going to start my workout.

My chest workout was a struggle.  I was lethargic, sleepy and not nearly as into the workout as I usually am.  To my credit, I pushed through it, and was happy for it to be over.  I actually ended up getting a pretty darn good workout in after all was said and done.  As I was leaving for the gym, I was proud of myself.  I hardly ever skip the gym, but I think many people would have skipped given the way I felt.

As usual, I felt more energized and much better post workout.  I also felt a lot better about myself.  Instead of sleeping in, I burned probably around 500 calories, got a great pump and put another day in the books towards my life of fitness.  My whole day has been better thanks to the gym.  If I didn’t go, I know I would feel groggier and also feel guilty for not going.  I also would be one day behind as far as my fitness goals.

The moral of my post is that there will be times that you don’t want to work out, and I mean really don’t want to work out.  If you can just get yourself to get to the gym and get through it, you will be much better off and feel a lot better about yourself.  It’s mind over matter, and today that is what I had to do.  Next time you really aren’t feeling it, dig deep and just do it.  Your body will thank you!
