Supplement Review: Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Protein

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey has been one of the top selling proteins for decades. The brand Optimum Nutrition, or ON’s has been around forever!  In fact, they started nearly 30 years ago!  When I was in high school, I was drinking ON’s protein.  I’m 38 years old, so that shows you how long they have been around!

They started out as one of the cheaper protein brands out there.  Though they were less expensive, they were still a pretty good quality protein.  Fast forward many years, and they are the #1 selling protein, albeit at a higher price.

Each service is approximately 120 calories, 24 grams of protein, 2g sugar and 3g carbs.  This will vary a little depending on the flavor.  The protein is a high quality and 100% whey with no fillers like some of the other brands.  In addition to around 25 grams of protein, you also get over grams of BCAA’s (Branch-Chain Amino Acids) and four grams of glutamine.

I have been using the Cake Batter flavor.  Previously I have tried many flavors including banana cream, chocolate mint, cookies and cream, delicious strawberry, chocolate coconut, rocky road and vanilla ice cream.  While I didn’t like the chocolate coconut as much as the others, the rest tasted great and mixed instantly with just a spoon.

If you are looking for a top selling, best tasting protein that delivers what it promises, I highly recommend Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein.  You really can’t go wrong with this one!

  1. I’ve long thought that ON Gold Standard was a great go-to. Delicious, versatile, easy to mix, and seems to deliver. And, if you get the economy 10-lb bag it’s only about $10/lb. Thanks for posting!
